Death metal veterans Six Feet Under are gearing up to hit the studio in June to record the follow-up to last year’s “Killing for Revenge”. Vocalist Chris Barnes revealed on social media that he and guitarist Jack Owen have completed writing the new record, and that the band will begin tracking it next month. Further details are expected soon.

Released in May 2024 via Metal Blade Records, “Killing for Revenge” was the second collaboration between Barnes and Owen since reuniting on 2020’s “Nightmares of the Decomposed”. Owen also served as producer on the last album, a role he may be reprising.

Barnes shared with fans online.

Originally launched as a side project during Barnes’ final years in Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under became his main gig in 1995 — the same year they dropped their debut, “Haunted”. While Barnes remains the only original member, the current lineup is anything but a compromise. Alongside Owen, the band features guitar wizard Ray Suhy, bassist Jeff Hughell, and drumming powerhouse Marco Pitruzzella.

Barnes has nothing but praise for the current roster, calling every member a top-tier musician. He highlighted the long-standing chemistry with Jeff and Marco, who’ve been part of the band for over a decade, and described Jack as the best songwriting partner he’s ever worked with. As for Ray, Barnes lauded his genre-bending guitar chops, saying he can effortlessly shred through everything from jazz to death metal.
