Six Feet Under announces “Next to Die” album – first single out “Unmistakable Smell Of Death” out now

American death metal band Six Feet Under releases their fifteenth studio album, “Next to Die,” on April 24 through Metal Blade Records. The record follows 2024’s “Killing For Revenge” and marks the third album Barnes and Owen have created together since reuniting in 2017. Lead single “Unmistakable Smell Of Death” is out now.

“Next to Die” splits across two distinct sides. Guitarist Jack Owen explains that half the album carries speed-driven death metal, while the other half returns to the groovier tempos of early Six Feet Under material. “Chris emphasized tempo, so keeping with the beats per minute for early SFU classics, I wrote a side of tasty groove-laden music with Chris doing all the lyrics,” says Owen. Vocalist Chris Barnes adds, “We don’t discuss lyrical themes. We each just write what we find interesting.”

Owen and Barnes produced the record together. Mark Lewis of MRL Studios in Nashville handled mixing and mastering. The current lineup features Barnes, Owen, lead guitarist Ray Suhy, bassist Jeff Hughell, and drummer Marco Pitruzzella.

Six Feet Under also confirms two headline tours. The European run with Embryonic Autopsy kicks off June 3 in Gdańsk. The North American tour with Kataklysm and Wormhole runs July 8 through August 11. Barnes calls it a chance to play Canada for the first time in decades.
