Post-hardcore veterans Silverstein have dropped a powerful new single, “Drain the Blood”, featuring Dayseeker‘s Rory Rodriguez. The track is the only collaboration on “Pink Moon”, the second half of the band’s ambitious double album arriving September 12th via UNFD.
Guitarist Paul Marc Rousseau shared that the song was actually the first idea he came up with for the album. While his early ideas usually get scrapped, this one stuck—and it ended up being his favorite, not just from the record, but possibly from the band’s entire career. The song was designed to feel entirely human, with strange, unexpected turns and overly dramatic lyrics meant to resist the growing influence of artificial intelligence in art.
Vocalist Shane Told added that the song serves as a warning against the rising role of machines in creative work. It’s meant to defend the emotional, imperfect qualities that define real music.
The song’s dystopian theme is brought to life in a striking video shot in a creepy LA studio and along the LA River, evoking the bleak vibes of Severance, Black Mirror, and Terminator 2. Told called it “some of the scariest possibilities of the future,” where art is stripped of its soul.
“Drain the Blood” follows the explosive first single “Negative Space”, teasing the emotionally raw and creatively bold direction of “Pink Moon”.
Fresh off their “25 Years of Noise” tour, Silverstein have a few final shows lined up for 2025, including stops in Australia and a year-end headliner in Brooklyn.
