Vocalist Brian Burkheiser has officially launched his new project SCATTERBRAIN after resolving a legal dispute with his former bandmates in the platinum-certified metalcore band I Prevail, as per theprp. On February 12, the first all-original track from the project, “PHASES,” which previously included a Taylor Swift cover, went live on the internet. It was made available by Burkheiser’s own label, Scatterbrain Records. His early attire, his decision to leave his day job, his medical problems, his breakup with I Prevail, and his family checking him into a mental health facility in 2025 after he had what he called a “manic break” are all covered in the song’s music video. It also describes how, by putting his expanding family first and working on this new initiative, he has discovered a new purpose.

The American rock group I Prevail was founded in 2013 in Southfield, Michigan. They became well-known after releasing a metal rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” as a single, which was subsequently certified platinum in the US. They also published their debut EP, “Heart vs. Mind”, in 2014. Since then, the group has put out four studio albums: “Trauma” (2019), “Lifelines” (2016), “True Power” (2022), and “Violent Nature” (2025). With the singles “Breaking Down” and “Hurricane” doing well on rock radio, the single “Bow Down” being nominated for the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance, and “Trauma” being nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album, the band also found success with their original material.

Love, Lust, and Liars” and “The Enemy,” the band’s first two singles from the debut EP, were released on December 10, 2014. Jordan Berger quit the band in 2014 and 2015, prior to the recording of their first album. Later, touring members Dylan Bowman on rhythm guitar and Tony Camposeo on bass joined the band as full-time members. The band started the Massive Addictive Tour and the Heart vs. Mind Tour. They revealed The Crossroads Tour, a summer tour, on June 24, 2015. During the 2015 Day of the Dead Tour, the band played a few shows and served as the opening act for Pop Evil in December. They also opened for Crown the Empire and Hollywood Undead in September and October.
