Southern California’s Scalp have released a new single from their upcoming third full-length album, “Not Worthy of Human Compassion”, set for release on July 25th via Closed Casket Activities. The new song goes by the name “Egodeath” and you can listen to it below and on streaming platforms.
“Not Worthy of Human Compassion” follows 2020’s “Domestic Extremity” and 2022’s “Black Tar”, merging the raw aggression of the former with the technical edge of the latter. Lyrically, the album draws from The Lucifer Effect by Philip Zimbardo, which explores the psychological roots of human cruelty. That dark inspiration bleeds into the music, making for a record that’s as focused and calculated as it is intense.
Formed in 2018 as a one-off Halloween project, Scalp quickly evolved into a full-force death metal and hardcore outfit. Since then, they’ve built a reputation for their chaotic, no-holds-barred sound—something they describe as “West Coast Death Violence.” The band pulls from a wide range of influences, from grindcore and death metal to d-beat and powerviolence, with nods to artists like Nails, Iron Lung, His Hero Is Gone, and even Slipknot and Nirvana.
The new LP features thirteen tracks packed into under twenty minutes, delivering a fast, punishing listen with moments of surprising depth. Though grounded in hardcore and grind, “Conspiracy” features elements like wah pedal leads and heavy breakdowns—proof that Scalp aren’t afraid to bend genre boundaries.
