Rotten Sound unleash violent new single “Idealist”

Finnish grindcore veterans Rotten Sound have dropped a new single, “Idealist”. The track is from upcoming EP “Mass Extinction”, which lands on December 12 through Season of Mist. It follows their 2023 full length “Apocalypse” and shows that the band’s politically charged grind is still razor sharp.

The song clocks in at just over a minute and fires straight into a blast of jagged riffs and abrasive noise. It carries a slightly brighter tone compared to some of the band’s recent material, although it still crashes into a harsh, pummelling groove before it ends. The shift adds a little contrast while keeping the band’s focus on social unrest and the pressure boiling beneath everyday life.

“Mass Extinction” is the band’s eleventh EP and packs eight songs into less than ten minutes. The record deals themes like misinformation, exploitation, consumer collapse and the growing sense of disconnection that shapes modern life. It was recorded in Finland, mixed by Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung) at Rain City Studios, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Nails, Corrosion of Conformity) at Audio Siege.

The band will support the release with a heavy run of shows. They are set to tour South America with DVRK and Crypta, continue through Europe in early 2026 with Repulsive Feast and Teething, and return to the United States for Maryland Deathfest with a special “Murderworks” and “Exit” set. “Mass Extinction” can be preorderd from here.
