A new level of Nordic brilliance – review of “Sunder” by Atlas

Author Benedetta Baldin - 10.2.2026

I know that Finnish metalheads appreciate modern metal and metalcore, so it wouldn’t be a surprise that now I’m about to review an album by a Finnish modern metal band. They’re Atlas, and they’re releasing their new album “Sunder” in a few days, so let me tell you all about it.

You have to trust me when I tell you that if I hadn’t known these gentlemen were from Finland, I would have thought that they were either from the UK or the USA. Their metal is so fresh and state-of-the-art, I’m not used to listening to Finnish bands like this! Well, hopefully no one will blame me for loving the legends…

But returning to Atlas, the production, mixing and mastering of “Sunder” are pristine, they obviously care about what they do and they do not leave things to chance. “I Whisper Your Name Like A Curse” has been out for a while, and it is an excellent choice for a single. The song is so evocative and profound, it’s a joy to discover more and more details with each listening.

If that track is an absolute winner, I wasn’t prepared for “Altar of Your Love“. I’m positive that now that one has taken the first spot in my heart. This is the work of a band that knows exacty what they’re bringing to the scene, and they shine brightly and brilliantly in each and every track. The level of attention and care to all the songs brings “Sunder” to be the new standard when it comes to excellence.

So don’t make a mistake: when February 20th comes, you absolutely need to listen to “Sunder”. Each time you find something you’ll enjoy, and it’s going to be on repeat (at least for me!) for quite a while. Third time is figuratively, and literally the charm when it comes to Atlas!
