Raw, unfiltered, and unforgettable – review of Volbeat’s “God Of Angels Trust”

Author Benedetta Baldin - 6.6.2025

If I may paraphrase Sirius Black, we did our waiting. Four years of it. Not in Azkaban, but in the real world, where we cannot rush all things that are worth waiting for. That is definitely the case for Volbeat‘s upcoming album “God Of Angels Trust”, to be released on June 6th, 2025, via Vertigo Records. And frankly, since the final result is so good, as I’ve said before, I don’t mind waiting!

Michael Poulsen, Kaspar Boye and Jon Larsen have triumphantly returned with what is the most profound, relatable and intense product that the band has ever seen. It was definitely time to let the guitars talk, and this is why, with towering riffs piled upon each other in a flurry of hardly restrained energy, the record sounds more like it was created during jam sessions than during boardroom deliberations.

Volbeat‘s most visceral and impromptu work in years is the consequence of each track pulsing with an urgency that has been absent from their recent catalogue. The band’s signature fusion of many genres lets the songs breathe and snarl with increased vigour; the flawless production is capturing this raw energy. Every listen feels like a revelation because of the layers that the group mastered to incorporate.

The lyrical approach demonstrates great depth and contemplation, despite the music might seem to embrace chaos (but then again, look at the name of this website). His stories of serial killers and paranormal encounters are only stepping stones to far more intimate areas. My favourite track? Number 5, which is the video right above this paragraph. Why, you might ask? First of all, that has to be one of the longest titles I’ve ever seen, and then, it is such a funny and original track, it spreads love from all angles!

So do not hesitate a single moment more: when “God Of Angels Trust” is out, listen to it, stream it, and then catch Volbeat play it live. This band has been bold enough to experiment, and we are all here praising them for it. Fifty years from now, the album will probably be regarded as a turning point in the band’s development, and is one that demands to be felt as much as heard.
