Queensrÿche have given fans a clearer picture of the direction of their next studio album. Speaking on the October 22 edition of SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, singer Todd La Torre and guitarist Michael Wilton discussed the work taking place on the follow-up to 2022’s Digital Noise Alliance.
La Torre said the instrumental writing has progressed substantially, with guitarist Mike Stone and Wilton holding dedicated sessions with producer Zeuss. Much of the singer’s work on melodies and lyrics remains ahead, however, and the band’s intensive touring schedule has made it difficult to find sustained time for writing.
Sometimes when everybody’s involved and everybody’s part of what they’re doing, it’s nice and it’s fair and it’s great, but it can stump things because everyone has 10 ideas. And that can be counterproductive. And so that’s why Stoney and Eddie went to Zeuss’s, and then Michael and Stoney went to Zeuss’s. They’re all going away for a week at a time doing several writing sessions. And the new stuff sounds like old-school ‘Rage [For Order]’ and ‘[The] Warning’. – Todd La Torre
The musicians indicated that they have been asking their booking team for more space between concerts so the album can move forward. Wilton also said the coming record will fulfill the group’s existing arrangement with Century Media; he did not identify a new label.
The new album has not received an official title, release date or confirmed completion date. For now, the comparison with Queensrÿche‘s early catalogue remains the band members’ description of work in progress rather than a promise of an identical sound.
