President vocalist doesn’t like his band being compared to Sleep Token

Author Benedetta Baldin - 5.2.2026

Even though President has thus far experienced a quick rise to relative prominence, their sudden breakthrough success hasn’t been without criticism and detractors, as per theprp. Long thought to be led by Charlie Simpson of Fightstar/Busted, the masked alternative metal band has already responded to claims that it is a “industry plant.” It didn’t exactly help his cause, though, since the band’s very first live performance occurred during a highly publicized slot at the yearly “Download Festival” in 2025. Rather than President truly earning the billing on their own merits, many felt that the relatively obscure act was brought on as part of a power play paired with Sleep Token‘s role headlining a day of that fest.

The group’s connections as Future History Management clients with fellow masked breakout stars Sleep Token have raised many questions about whether PRESIDENT is merely a cash-in, even though their masked presidential gimmick and related rhetoric set them apart in some ways. It seems that PRESIDENT‘s unnamed frontman is already tired of being often compared to the most commercially successful masked alternative metal band to emerge in recent years, even though those arguments will probably continue in the comments sections for some time to come. The band’s unidentified singer expressed disapproval of the frequent similarities his group receives with Sleep Token in a recent interview with Metal Hammer.

What a fucking lazy comparison. I mean, yes, we have the same management, and we both wear masks. Those are both facts… you got me! It’s like, is that it?! That’s all you’ve got? It’s hardly a new thing, is it, wearing masks?!
