After returning to the studio, Power Trip seems to be working on their first new song since frontman Riley Gale passed away, as per lambgoat. Producer Jacob Hansen has been collaborating with the Texas crossover group. The sessions will be Power Trip‘s first official body of work since Gale’s unintentional overdose death in 2020. Power Trip signed with Blue Grape Music in March. Seth Gilmore, the vocalist for Skourge, has been filling in for the band in the interim. The band shared the following photo of themselves in the studio with Hansen last month. Earlier in the year, guitarist Blake Ibanez said the group was working on new material.
The American crossover thrash band Power Trip was founded in Dallas, Texas, in 2008. Riley Gale (lead vocals), Blake Ibanez (lead guitar), Nick Stewart (rhythm guitar), Chris Whetzel (bass), and Chris Ulsh (drums) made comprised Power Trip‘s lineup by 2020. Ulsh took over for drummer Marcus Johnson, who departed in 2009. More than three years after Gale’s passing, in 2023, Seth Gilmore took over as their current singer. To far, they have put out two studio albums, “Manifest Decimation” (2013) and “Nightmare Logic” (2017), as well as a live CD and a compilation of their early songs.
One of the most popular thrash metal bands of the 2010s was Power Trip, as evidenced by Nightmare Logic’s entry into the Billboard charts and other newspaper honors. A live rendition of “Executioner’s Tax (Swing of the Axe)” was nominated for a Grammy for Best Metal Performance. In order to gather their additional songs, the album “Opening Fire: 2008–2014” was released in 2018. Power Trip revealed that they were recording their third album towards the end of 2019. On August 25, 2020, vocalist Riley Gale passed away at the age of 34. The band confirmed his passing the next day.
