Pig Pen drops explosive new single “Venom Moon Rising” from upcoming debut album

Canadian hardcore outfit Pig Pen has unleashed a fierce new single, “Venom Moon Rising”, taken from their upcoming debut album “Mental Madness”. The album is set for release on June 27th via Flatspot Records.

The band’s lineup is stacked with heavy hitters: frontman Matty Matheson — best known as a celebrity chef and actor in The Bear — leads the charge alongside guitarists Wade MacNeil (Alexisonfire, Dooms Children) and Daniel Romano, drummer Ian Romano (Daniel Romano’s Outfit), and bassist Tommy Major (Daniel Romano’s Outfit, Young Guv). With roots deep in the hardcore and punk scenes, this supergroup brings serious experience and edge.

“Mental Madness” came to life through a raw, no-frills creative process: the songs were written in a single day and recorded the next. The band handled production duties themselves, while mixing was taken care of by Arthur Rizk (Cold World, Fucked Up, Power Trip), and mastering was done by Grammy-winner Alan Douches (Black Breath, Aborted). The result is a record that fuses the gritty energy of ’80s hardcore with a rock’n’roll attitude, digging into themes like isolation, loneliness, and mental turmoil.

Speaking about the album’s message, Matheson says it’s about those moments when everything should feel good — you’re surrounded by friends, the day is beautiful — but your mind just won’t let you enjoy it. “It doesn’t matter how good or bad your life is,” he says, “you can still hate yourself.”
