Along with singer Tim Lambesis, guitarist Phil Srgrosso is a key member of As I Lay Dying. He has released a brief statement about his status with the metalcore band, which is based in San Diego, California. in a social media post from yesterday.
When the band revived in 2018 following Tim Lambesis’s prison sentence for attempting to have his then-wife murdered, Sgrosso and a number of other former members joined the band, which he had joined in 2003. During the pandemic, guitarist/vocalist Nick Hipa and bassist/vocalist Josh Gilbert left the band, leaving Sgrosso as the sole essential member to stay with Lambesis. Around that time, Jordan Mancino, the band’s co-founder and drummer, also drifted away from the group. Sgrosso’s announcement follows the departure of three other members in the last few days: drummer Nick Pierce, guitarist Ken Susi, and bassist/vocalist Ryan Neff. Sgrosso is thought to have a significant stake in the band because of his length of service. He also has songwriting credits on the band’s upcoming album, “Through Storms Ahead,” which is scheduled for release on November 15th. The three individuals mentioned above who recently left the group joined in 2022. Although openers Decapitated and Ov Sulfur have now confirmed the news, the band has not yet officially acknowledged the cancellation of their autumn European tour due to their present situation.
