Overkill are moving steadily toward their next full-length release. The New Jersey thrash metal veterans have already written ten songs for what will become their 21st studio album.

Songwriting well underway

Frontman Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth confirmed the progress in a recent interview with SLAM: Music Survival Guide. According to Ellsworth, the band is deep into the creative phase and close to taking the next step.

We’re ten songs deep,” Ellsworth said. “I expect to be recording by January, and then we’ll see what happens from there.

As a result, fans can expect concrete movement toward the follow-up to the band’s latest studio effort sooner rather than later.

Possible delays due to health issues

However, Ellsworth also noted that the timeline may shift slightly. Bassist D.D. Verni continues to recover from shoulder surgery and a related injury, which could affect when recording fully begins.

Even so, the band remains focused on moving forward. Despite potential setbacks, Overkill appear committed to keeping momentum strong as work on the new album continues.

More details about the album’s direction and release schedule are expected once the recording phase officially begins.
