Ace Frehley, best known as the former and original guitarist of the rock band KISS, has died. Frehley was 74 years old at the time of his death. Frehley’s death was reported by Rolling Stone, among others. Frehley reportedly suffered a brain bleed after a fall in his studio in September, and that his family made the decision to end his life support in hospital.
Frehley’s family commented to the media:
“We are completely devastated and heartbroken. In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this earth. We cherish all of his finest memories, his laughter, and celebrate his strengths and kindness that he bestowed upon others. The magnitude of his passing is of epic proportions, and beyond comprehension. Reflecting on all of his incredible life achievements, Ace’s memory will continue to live on forever!”
Earlier in October, Frehley had to cancel his concerts for the rest of the year due to health reasons.
With Kiss, Frehley contributed to several classic albums. These include “Destroyer” (1976), “Love Gun” (1977) and “Dynasty” (1979).
Frehley first left Kiss in 1982 to concentrate on his solo career. His debut album Ace Frehley (1978), released on the same day as the solo albums of other Kiss members, was the most commercially successful and contains his biggest solo hit, “New York Groove”. He later formed a band called Frehley’s Comet, through which he continued to perform and record throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
Ace Frehley returned to Kiss in 1996 for the return tour of the original line-up, which was a huge success around the world. However, he left the band again in the early 2000s to concentrate on his own music. Since then, Frehley has released several solo albums, the most recent being “10,000 Volts”, released in 2024.
