Orbit Culture debut “Hydra” video – reveal European tour plans

Swedish melodic death metal band Orbit Culture have released their latest single “Hydra”, the third preview of their upcoming fifth album “Death Above Life”, due out October 3rd. The track follows earlier singles “The Tales of War” and the title track, further building anticipation for what’s shaping up to be one of the band’s most personal and heavy-hitting records to date.

With “Hydra”, Orbit Culture lean hard into their signature mix of low-tuned riffs and emotionally intense themes. The song tackles the struggle of breaking free from toxic relationships and the inner turmoil that comes with that kind of personal transformation. The band wrote the track during a particularly challenging period, channeling that emotional energy into its raw, aggressive sound.

The video for “Hydra” was filmed in the California desert, and it definitely brings the heat—literally and visually. No digital effects or green screens here, just a scorched, cinematic landscape filled with stark imagery and ominous symbolism. The vibe has been described as something straight out of Dune, adding a post-apocalyptic edge to the song’s already intense message.

“Death Above Life” will feature ten tracks and marks a fresh step forward for Orbit Culture. This time around, the album was mixed by Buster Odeholm instead of frontman Niklas Karlsson, giving the songs a sharper, more polished sound while still keeping the band’s trademark heaviness intact.

To support the album, the band is hitting the road this fall for the Death Above Life European tour with Gaerea and Atlas. The tour will run through Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, with the following dates confirmed:
