Orbit Culture have unveiled “Death Above Life”, the crushing title track from their upcoming album, out October 3rd via Century Media Records. The Swedish metallers are leaning into a darker, heavier, and more cinematic direction, with guitarist-vocalist Niklas Karlsson calling the record a new beginning and a rebirth.
Produced by the band and mixed by Buster Odeholm (Vildhjarta, Humanity’s Last Breath), the track blends crushing riffs, eerie trills, and a brooding ambient break before crashing into a doom-laced finish. It’s a massive leap forward for the group, both sonically and thematically.
Thematically, the track deals with breaking away from toxic surroundings and making space for growth. It’s less about death itself and more about choosing a new path when something no longer fits.
Drawing inspiration from composers like Hans Zimmer and Howard Shore, Orbit Culture have expanded their sonic palette with cinematic layers—adding pianos, strings, and swelling dynamics to amplify their straightforward riffs. This fresh approach pushes their sound into more atmospheric and emotionally resonant territory.
“Death Above Life” will make its live debut at Download Festival on June 25th.
