Once In A While release new single “Mercy”

Once In A While continue to shape their identity with “Mercy”, a new single that marks a significant turning point in the band’s artistic evolution. With the arrival of frontman Thomas Carrer, the band are solidifying an increasingly distinctive sound, balancing emotionally driven clean vocals with intense instrumentation, aggressive guitar riffs, and dynamic, relentless drumming.

“Mercy” highlights the contrast at the heart of Once In A While’s musical identity. Thom’s clean vocal performance brings melody and emotional depth to the track, standing out against the weight of the instrumental arrangements. Heavy guitar riffs, intricate rhythmic patterns, and powerful breakdowns create a tense, energetic soundscape that moves between atmosphere and aggression.

Drawing inspiration from modern metalcore and djent, with influences ranging from TesseracT and Thornhill to Bad Omens and Architects, Once In A While are developing a sound that feels increasingly cohesive and recognisable. Rather than simply marking another release, “Mercy” represents a defining step towards the musical identity the band want to establish moving forward.

The single also marks an important milestone behind the scenes: “Mercy” is the first track fully produced independently by Once In A While. Simone Canedda, the band’s drummer and producer, handled the entire audio production process, including mixing and mastering. Taking full creative control of the production allowed the band to bring their artistic vision to life while strengthening their identity as a self-driven project.

The accompanying music video was filmed by Veronica Furlan, known as V.Visual, an integral part of the Once In A While project. The video also features Arianna Lorenzon, a professional dancer who contributes her performance as an actress, adding another artistic dimension to the visual narrative.

With “Mercy”, Once In A While take another step forward, bringing together a maturing sound, a new vocal identity, and a fully independent approach to production. As the band continue to define their direction, this release offers a clear glimpse into the chapter they are building.
