Florida death metal veterans Obituary have announced two special concerts celebrating their 2007 album “Xecutioner’s Return” and its 2009 successor “Darkest Day”. The back-to-back shows will take place at The Brass Mug in Tampa, Florida, on November 21 and 22, ahead of remastered physical reissues of both records.
Each evening will spotlight a different album from the band’s late-2000s catalogue, offering fans an opportunity to revisit material from that period in an intimate venue setting.
The November 21 concert, billed as Tampa’s Evil Ways Celebration, will focus on “Xecutioner’s Return”. Supporting acts announced for the evening include Intoxicated, Must Not Kill, Three Knuckles Deep and Fatal. Doors are scheduled to open at 5 p.m. local time.
The following day, November 22, Obituary will celebrate “Darkest Day” at a matinee event billed as Florida’s Darkest Day Matinee. Mind Virus, Skull Crunch, Consume the Wolf and Scorch are listed as support, with doors opening at 4 p.m. local time.
The band has not specified whether either album will be performed in its entirety. Both events are being promoted as celebrations of the respective records.
The shows precede the December 11, 2026 release of newly remastered editions of “Xecutioner’s Return” and “Darkest Day” through Relapse Records. Physical formats include vinyl, CD and cassette, while digital editions are already available.
The reissues also serve as a tribute to late Obituary bassist Frank Watkins and guitarist Ralph Santolla, whose contributions helped define this chapter of the band’s history.
The updated “Darkest Day” includes two bonus tracks originally issued on the 2008 “Left To Die” EP: a new version of “Slowly We Rot” recorded that year and a cover of Celtic Frost’s “Dethroned Emperor”.
For fans unable to attend the Florida concerts, the remastered releases provide another opportunity to revisit two records that have been difficult to obtain in physical formats for years.
