In a discussion with Andrew Slaidins from The Rockpit‘s “50 Shades Of Slaids,” Jeff Gutt, the vocalist of Stone Temple Pilots, was inquired about potential plans for the band to produce new musical compositions. The conversation focused on the prospects of future releases by Gutt and his fellow band members.

It’s crazy, because Dean’s [DeLeo, STP guitarist] put out a few records on his own, and Robert’s [DeLeo, STP bassist] put out one, I believe. Maybe two. One, I think. Maybe two; I’m not sure. And I’m actually working on finishing what I was doing, ’cause when I joined STP, I was working on a record and I had to stop. So I’m actually working on finishing that right now. And at some point here we’re gonna come together and write some new music together.

It has to happen organically where it’s something that we’re doing in the moment. It can’t be something that’s really pre-planned too much; otherwise it doesn’t… Those things don’t tend to work out. ‘Cause again, be like, ‘Oh, it’s 4:00. I gotta sit down and write a song.’ It doesn’t really work that way. Especially with STP, it’s gotta be very organic and real. So, yeah, we’re just working on our other things right now, and when we get to that, it’ll happen. It’ll probably happen quickly too, because that’s how those things tend to go.

Scott Weiland, the original vocalist of Stone Temple Pilots, rejoined the ensemble in 2010 following an eight-year absence but was subsequently terminated in 2013. He passed away in December 2015 due to a drug overdose. Chester Bennington, who became a member of STP in early 2013, exited the band nearly three years later to dedicate more time to his primary group, Linkin Park. Tragically, Bennington took his own life in July 2017.
