Mikey “Bug” Cox, the drummer for Coal Chamber, has offered his thoughts on the group’s decision to withdraw from this year’s “Louder Than Life”, as per theprp. As it happens, Cox will be undergoing what is anticipated to be his last cancer surgery, therefore the band has been forced to cancel that time slot. Cox revealed in April of last year that he had been fighting cancer in private.

Please read I wanted to share a quick update!

After months of scans, tests, and appointments, I’m beyond grateful to say that I passed all of my recent tests and finally got the green light from my doctors for what we hope will be my final cancer surgery.

Because of that, Coal Chamber will be postponing our performance at Louder Than Life. While I’m bummed to miss it, this is the news my family and I have been fighting for, and I couldn’t be more excited to take this next step.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this long cancer journey. Your love, encouragement, and positive energy have meant the world to me.

My focus now is on surgery, recovery, and getting back on stage with my Coal Chamber family as soon as possible. The future is looking bright, and I can’t wait to see you all again soon!

Fuck Cancer!

Dez Fafara and Meegs Rascón founded the American nu metal group Coal Chamber in Los Angeles in 1992, initially going by the name She’s in Pain. Drummer Jon Tor and bassist Rayna Foss were also part of the initial group. In 1995, Tor was replaced on drums by Mike Cox, completing the Coal Chamber lineup. “Coal Chamber,” their debut album, was released in 1997 after they signed with Roadrunner Records. Two years later, the band released “Chamber Music”, which included a cover of Peter Gabriel’s “Shock the Monkey” with Ozzy Osbourne as a guest vocalist. This was the band’s only US charting song.
