You need a talented guitarist to perform a superb guitar solo. William Shatner played through the early material he had previously collected for his future metal album, and he did just that, as per Blabbermouth. While Shatner was enjoying the performance of “The Grim Reaper,” a new song he co-wrote with guitarist Marcus Nand, he also submitted their tape to legend Ritchie Blackmore of Rainbow/Deep Purple to get his opinion and suggestions for improvement.

The guitar solo on what you sent is very good, I don’t feel I can add anything to change or improve it.

As a result, Nand, who is already considered by many to be among the greatest, although underappreciated, guitarists currently performing and is renowned for his elegant, tasteful approach, makes yet another enormous stride toward immortality. After all, Ritchie is well known for his refusal to settle for anything less than the best; if he says something is good, you’d better believe it. And Nand is good, his varied background creating a sound that combines the raw strength of rock, the emotional depths of blues, and the flamenco traditions of Spain. His work with longtime David Bowie sideman Mike Garson, the metal band Freak Of Nature with Mike Tramp, and the world music-infused rock group Ziroq with another Bowie veteran, bassist Carmine Rojas, have all brought him considerable notoriety for this distinctive blend.

Blackmore, who previously worked with William Shatner on the Christmas and blues albums, also extended his encouragement and thanked Shatner for considering him for this new endeavor. Work on this highly anticipated record is still on, but if you’re ready to see how talented Nand is as a guitarist, you should listen to his 2024 Cleopatra Records first solo album, “The Traveler”. Alongside Billy Idol collaborator Steve Stevens, the record features Garson, Tramp, and Rojas.
