The human serviette himself, Nardwuar, recently participated in an interview with Ghost genius Tobias Forge, as per theprp. The duration of that distinctively strange chat is slightly over forty minutes, and it is available to watch below:

The Swedish rock group Ghost was founded in Linköping in 2006. The band became well-known throughout the world after releasing their debut album, “Opus Eponymous”, in 2010. “Meliora”, which peaked at number one in Sweden and number eight in the US in 2015, and “Infestissumam”, which debuted in 2013, came next. The albums “Impera” (2022) and “Prequelle” (2018) came after this. Released in 2025, “Skeletá”, the band’s sixth studio album, went on to become their first number one on the US Billboard 200 list. “Nameless Ghouls” is the moniker given to Ghost’s members, with the exception of the lead singer. Known for his “demonic anti-pope” iconography, the lead singer has alternated between performing as “Papa Emeritus” and altering this for later tours.
Following a lawsuit over royalties filed by a number of musicians who had collaborated with Tobias Forge on the Ghostproject, the lead singer’s name was made public in 2017. The band was nominated for multiple Swedish Grammis awards, and their single “Cirice” won them a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2016.
The song “Stand by Him” was written by Tobias Forge, who would go on to head the band Ghost, in 2006. Forge then got in touch with Gustaf Lindström, a former member of the Repugnant band, to record the song. The two went into the studio to record the songs “Death Knell,” “Prime Mover,” and “Stand by Him” at the beginning of 2008. Forge made the decision to remain unknown as a “theater band” and incorporate their passion for horror movies and “the traditions of Scandinavian metal” into the art of the band. With his face painted to resemble a skull and his papal regalia, Forge would go by “Papa Emeritus” while the other band members would be referred to as “Nameless Ghouls” and wear black hooded robes.
