The 1991 lineup of Swedish death metal pioneers Grave, which included Jonas Torndal on bass, Jens “Jensa” Paulsson on drums, Ola Lindgren on guitar and vocals, and Jörgen Sandström on guitar and vocals, reunited for this year’s Brutal Assault open-air extreme metal festival in the 18th-century Josefov Fortress in Jaroměř, Czech Republic, on August 8, 2025. Grave played “an exclusive old-school set” that included songs from their first three iconic albums: “Into The Grave” (1991), “You’ll Never See…” (1992), and “Soulless” (1994). Below is a professionally shot footage of the concert, as reported by blabbermouth.net. Grave has performed at a number of other festivals, such as the Graveland Festival in the Netherlands, the Party.San Metal Open Air in Germany, and the Metal Storm Over Luzern in Switzerland. On April 5, Grave’s first performance since their 1991 reunion was held at Stockholm, Sweden’s Kulturhuset.
Before changing their name to Grave in 1988, the band, one of the earliest Swedish death metal bands along with Nihilist, Morbid, and Treblinka, released their first demo in 1986 under the name Corpse. In August 1991, Grave’s debut album, “Into The Grave,” was released by Century Media, a relatively new record company. The band released two highly acclaimed albums, “Dominium VIII” (2008) and “Burial Ground” (2010), through Regain after Century Media and Grave parted ways after seven albums, including “As Rapture Comes” in 2006. They then rejoined Century Media for “Endless Procession Of Souls” (2012) and “Out Of Respect For The Dead” (2015).
