Static-X‘s fifth studio album, “Cannibal,” is scheduled for a new vinyl edition featuring a ‘blood and bronze splatter’ design, to be released by Real Gone Music on March 6th, as per theprp. The reissue includes the B-side track “Light It Up,” originally a bonus track for the Best Buy edition of the album.
Pre-orders for this edition are available through realgonemusic.com. The initial limited edition vinyl, released in 2007, was characterized by a green and black splatter pattern.
“Cannibal,” released on April 3, 2007, marked the return of their original guitarist, Koichi Fukuda, to the studio lineup. Prior to the album’s release, the track “No Submission” was featured on the Saw III soundtrack, and the album was also made available as a digital download on iTunes.
The lead single from the album, “Destroyer,” was released to radio stations before the album’s launch. On March 20, an exclusive “Destroyer” EP was issued, accompanied by a music video for the title track.
The album debuted at number 36 on the U.S. charts, achieving sales exceeding 30,000 copies. On May 10, 2007, it was announced that the band would perform on the main stage at Ozzfest 2007.
During this period, Static announced plans to release solo material under the project name Pighammer. In November 2007, Campos temporarily joined Ministry as a touring bassist following the death of Paul Raven.
This album marks the band’s inaugural release to feature guitar solos, with every track except “Goat” including one. “Cannibal” is notable for being the first album produced by John Travis and the first without Ulrich Wild, who previously handled production and mixing for the band’s initial four albums. It is also the first album not to contain a song with “Otsego” in the title. With a duration of 37 minutes, it stands as the shortest album in the band’s discography. The title track “Cannibal” draws inspiration from Wayne’s vegetarian reflections on human meat consumption, whereas “Reptile” narrates the theme of being devoured alive by a massive reptile. On January 18, 2007, the band announced the track listing via a MySpace bulletin.
