Finland’s heavy music scene gets more colorful next summer when the new metal-focused Kaaos Festival will be held on July 25-26 at the former Wasalandia area in Vaskiluoto, Vaasa. The event is organized in collaboration between WsArena Oy (also responsible for the Lisää Löylyä festival) and Kaaoszine. Kaaoszine’s editor-in-chief, Arto Mäenpää, who serves as the festival’s promoter, shares the following about the new festival:
“The idea for the new festival began when I approached WsArena about collaborating for the 2025 Lisää Löylyä festival. Festival promoter Ari Rintamäki suggested creating a new festival together, and since the idea of Kaaoszine having its own festival had been brewing in the back of my mind for a few years, it was ultimately quite easy to say yes, roll up our sleeves and get to work. The festival program is shaping up to reflect Kaaoszine’s vision, so the audience will be offered a very wide range of metal music styles.”
In today’s launch announcement, exactly half of the 16-performer lineup is revealed: The Haunted, Fleshgod Apocalypse, In Mourning, Bloodred Hourglass, …And Oceans, Assemble The Chariots, Enemies Everywhere and Where’s My Bible. Mäenpää explains:
“According to the current plan, Kaaos Festival will feature a total of 16 bands performing on two different stages over two days. The smaller stage will feature seasoned veterans of Finnish metal music combined with rising bands, while the main stage will focus on interesting and current international bands.
So far, 12 out of 16 bands have been confirmed for the festival’s lineup, and intense negotiations are currently ongoing with international headliners. There will also be a competition later on the website where bands can win a chance to perform on the smaller festival stage. We will announce new band confirmations and details about the upcoming competition at the end of 2024 and early 2025.”
The festival will be held at the former Wasalandia area in Vaasa’s Vaskiluoto. Mäenpää shares the following about the venue and the festival’s future:
“Kaaos Festival is intended to become an annual event, so naturally we hope that all the magazine’s long-time readers and metal music fans from all over Finland will pack their bags and come to the former Wasalandia area to check out these iron-hard bands. The Wasalandia area has been used for the Lisää Löylyä festival and has received only praise from audiences, so the venue’s facilities are absolutely perfect for hosting a festival. See you all in Vaskiluoto at the end of July!”
