Post-metal giants Neurosis have announced its return with the surprise release of “An Undying Love For A Burning World,” the band’s first album in more than a decade. Along with the album reveal, the band confirm Aaron Turner (of Sumac, Isis, and Old Man Gloom) as the new guitarist and vocalist, replacing Scott Kelly.
The return closes a difficult chapter for the band. Neurosis fired Kelly in 2019 after discovering his history of domestic violence, keeping the situation private until 2022 at the request of Kelly’s wife. Kelly admitted to the abuse publicly that year and announced his permanent retirement from music.
Turner joins vocalist and guitarist Steve Von Till, drummer Jason Roeder, bassist Dave Edwardson, and keyboard player Noah Landis. The new member came out swinging, with the rest of the band noting his instant creative contribution and energy that felt like a natural fit from day one.
Turner describes his connection to Neurosis as one stretching back over 30 years, calling the band’s sound and spirit something that has shaped his understanding of music’s creative possibilities. He considers joining the band an honor.
In addition to the album, Neurosis confirms a live performance at Fire in the Mountains Festival in Montana this July, their first stage appearance in seven years. The festival partners with the Blackfeet Nation and Firekeeper Alliance, a nonprofit focused on reducing youth suicide in Indigenous communities. Von Till, who serves on Firekeeper Alliance’s board, describes the environment as uniquely appropriate for the band’s return.
“An Undying Love For A Burning World” is now available digitally via Neurot Recordings, with the physical edition arriving in early May. Pre-orders are live.
