In 2010, guitarist Prika Amaral and drummer Fernanda Terra established Nervosa. Karen Ramos joined as a second guitarist a few months later. After a year and a half, Karen Ramos departed the group and bassist Fernanda Lira joined. Ramos was rarely able to participate in band rehearsals because he resided distant from São Paulo. After that, the surviving musicians—who had previously performed in all-female bands—decided to stick together as a trio. The band recorded a music video for the song “Masked Betrayer” and released the demo “Time of Death” in 2012. Shortly after, drummer Fernanda Terra departed the group, and Pitchu Ferraz took her place. Napalm Records, an Austrian record company, signed the band in May 2012.
