Napalm Death and Melvins share second track “Rip The God” from expanded collab album

Napalm Death and Melvins have dropped the second single “Rip The God” from upcoming collaborative album “Savage Imperial Death March”. The release arrives April 10 via Ipecac Recordings.

The album first surfaced as a limited tour-only vinyl and CD release during the bands’ co-headlining 2025 tour. That run was itself the second under the “Savage Imperial Death March” name, following an earlier edition in 2016. Now, the wider release adds two new tracks, “Awful Handwriting” and “Comparison Is The Thief Of Joy,” along with new Mackie Osborne-created artwork.

The record marks their first full-length studio collaboration. Buzz Osborne handles vocals and guitar, while Dale Crover plays drums for Melvins. On the Napalm Death side, Barney Greenway takes vocals, Shane Embury plays bass, and John Cooke handles guitar. Recording took place at the Melvins‘ Los Angeles studio.

Bassist Shane Embury described the Buzz Osborne opening riff as deceptively complex. Specifically, he pointed to its signature rhythmic hiccup as the element that threw him off during recording. He also highlighted the layers of guitar pedal noise the band collectively added, calling the result a joyful kind of sonic chaos.

Greenway, meanwhile, reflected on the full-circle nature of the project. He recalled hunting for rare Melvins 7-inches in New York back in 1989. He also expressed appreciation for collaborating with a band that, like Napalm Death, has no interest in chasing commercial demographics.
