Space Boy Comics, whose real name is Blake Armstrong, has disclosed that he created the artwork for Megadeth’s last studio album. Megadeth revealed on Thursday, August 14, that their next album will be their final one. In 2026, the band lead by Dave Mustaine will likewise go on a final tour. The title of the last album, its release date, and the remaining dates of Megadeth’s tour have not yet been disclosed by Mustaine and the other members of the band.
If I could tell my fifteen-year-old self that I’d be asked to create artwork for Megadeth’s last studio record, I would have (fittingly) burst into flames.
The process designing this record has been an absolute joy (give or take a little bit of sheer panic here and there 😅). It’s truly something to be able to work closely with artists responsible for crafting such a huge piece of a genre. I consider myself so lucky to be in the orbit of such amazing creatives every day.
There will be more to come and more to share about this journey but I just want to give heartfelt thanks to @cshields12@justismustaine and the man, @davemustaine for letting me participate in this mad circus. But more than anyone, I want to thank @soph.lamontagne for being my rock and backbone through the highs and lows of it all.❤️
This artwork represents just the first notes of the piece — there will be plenty more to come. I hope you all dig it.🙏🏻💀🔥
There’s so many musicians that have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional. Most of them don’t get to go out on their own terms on top, and that’s where I’m at in my life right now. I have traveled the world and have made millions upon millions of fans and the hardest part of all of this is saying goodbye to them.
We can’t wait for you to hear this album and see us on tour. If there was ever a perfect time for us to put out a new album, it’s now. If there was ever a perfect time to tour the world, it’s now. This is also a perfect time for us to tell you that it’s our last studio album. We’ve made a lot of friends over the years and I hope to see all of you on our global farewell tour.
Don’t be mad, don’t be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years. We have done something together that’s truly wonderful and will probably never happen again. We started a musical style, we started a revolution, we changed the guitar world and how it’s played, and we changed the world. The bands I played in have influenced the world. I love you all for it. Thank you for everything. Dave Mustaine
