Moonspell bring darkness to Buenos Aires – classic era setlist dominates the night

Last Saturday, March 21st, El Teatrito didn’t witness the crushing mosh pits of a sold-out show — but those who showed up were treated to something far more special: a private ritual.

The Portuguese wolves of Moonspell returned to Buenos Aires, and they performed like they were headlining Wacken.

Fernando Ribeiro still commands the night

Let’s talk about Fernando Ribeiro. The man is a force of nature. While many vocalists from the ’90s black and gothic scenes have lost their low end over time, Ribeiro’s voice remains as powerful as ever — like velvet-wrapped gravel.

His growls were guttural and filthy in the best possible way, cutting through the mix effortlessly. When he shifted into his signature baritone, it felt like the temperature in the room suddenly dropped. His vocal control is nothing short of terrifying. He had the entire audience in his grip from start to finish.

A tribute to “Wolfheart”

The night served as a massive tribute to “Wolfheart”, and for a few hours, it genuinely felt like 1995 again. Tracks like “Vampiria” stood out as the theatrical peak of the evening, with Ribeiro stalking the stage under deep red lighting — a reminder of why Moonspell helped define gothic metal in the first place.

“Alma Mater” still hits like a freight train. Even with visible gaps in the crowd, the chant from the Argentine audience was deafening — as expected.

Meanwhile, “Wolfshade” delivered raw, old-school riffs with a gritty edge that’s largely absent from the band’s more polished modern material.

The band performed “Wolfheart” in full, alongside fan favorites such as “Full Moon Madness” and “Everything Invaded”, creating a setlist that balanced nostalgia with intensity.

A raw and personal performance

What we witnessed was a raw, unfiltered version of Moonspell that felt deeply personal. No flashy distractions — just a legendary frontman at the peak of his powers and a performance that reminded everyone why we fell in love with darkness in the first place.

If you weren’t there, you missed a masterclass in how to lead the pack.
