In May, the Balkan country will be represented at the 70th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Austria, by the Serbian modern metal band Lavina, as per Blabbermouth. The “Pesma Za Evroviziju 26” (“PZE 26”) final of Serbia’s national selection process took place on Saturday night, February 28. Last night, the 14 acts that made it beyond the semi-finals returned to the stage. A combination of jury and public votes, each with a 50% weighting, were used to choose the winner.
RTS, the Serbian station in charge of the nation’s Eurovision Song Contest submissions, hosted the national final. “Kraj Mene” by Lavina was the winner of both the jury and popular votes. It received 29,759 votes in the public vote, more than twice as many as Brat Pelin‘s “Fräulein,” the second song in that area.
On Tuesday, May 12, Lavina will play “Kraj Mene” in the second half of the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest. The six-piece metal band Lavina was founded in the middle of 2020 in Niš, Serbia. The majority of the band’s time after formation was devoted to creating and recording the songs for their debut album, “Odyssey,” which was made available in November 2022. Since then, as part of the “Odyssey” tour, the group has performed at festivals and promotional performances in several European countries, including Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Greece, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, and others.
The best way to characterize Lavina is as a blend of a variety of rock and metal elements with a poetic and dramatic sensibility. Lavina is a genuinely disruptive band that subverts their understanding of metal through dynamic, life-size live performances and constantly shifting influences. The singles “In Your Absence” and “Iron Will” were released by Lavina in August and November of 2024. Their most recent single, “This, Too, Will Pass,” was released in March 2025 and signaled a change in both sound and style.
