Mikael Åkerfeldt joins The Vintage Caravan on new single “Philosopher”

Icelandic rock trio The Vintage Caravan has released “Philosopher,” the lead single from their upcoming sixth album “Portals”, due September 26th, 2025 via Napalm Records. The song features a guest turn from Mikael Åkerfeldt, vocalist and guitarist of Opeth.

Bassist Alexander Örn Númason shared that the band became good friends with Opeth during recent tours and were thrilled when Mikael offered to collaborate. Originally intended for frontman Óskar Logi Ágústsson to sing in full, the band soon realized Mikael’s distinctive voice brought a new depth to the verses, making it impossible to imagine the track without him. The song opens the album with a dreamy intro that quickly transitions into heavy, riff-driven rock layered with bubbling synths, marking the first of five “portals” in the record’s concept.

Portals follows the band’s 2021 album “Monuments”, which reached #21 on the German charts and marked a turning point in their sound. The new record continues that evolution with standout tracks like “Crossroads,” the hard-hitting “Alone,” and “Riot,” a bluesy-psych rocker packed with groove and intensity. The album wraps up with the atmospheric closer “This Road,” capping off an hour-long trip through retro-inspired yet modern rock landscapes.

The Vintage Caravan will support “Portals” with an extensive headlining tour across Europe and the UK this fall.
