Michael Sweet, the frontman of Stryper, has provided an update regarding his recent disclosure that he has been diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer, the most prevalent kind of thyroid cancer. Less than a month after a nodule in his thyroid’s right lobe was biopsied, the diagnosis was made, as per Blabbermouth.
I wanted to give you all an update. I met with my doctor/team and apparently I’m a prime candidate for ‘active surveillance’. What that means is they’re going to do an ultrasound in 6 months to see if there has been any change to the nodule in my right thyroid.
It is malignant, but the good news is it’s self contained and surrounded by healthy tissue. It’s also small enough that they feel it makes more sense to ‘keep an eye on it’ instead of rushing surgery at this point in time. They feel that surgery itself is more risky than the nodule itself. At least for now. So, I’ll have an ultrasound in June and we’ll go from there. My hopes and prayers are to see it disappear. Maybe through diet, hope and prayers, it will.
Thank you all for taking the time to think of me and to prayer for me. It’s comforting to know that there are so many friends out there and I love you all.
On November 21, Stryper’s eagerly anticipated Christmas album “The Greatest Gift Of All” was published by Frontiers Music Srl. Five original Christmas songs and five classic Christmas cuts are included on the album, including remakes of “Reason For The Season” and “Winter Wonderland,” which were first featured on a 1985 single and were also included on the 1986 reissue of Stryper’s debut EP, “The Yellow And Black Attack.” On his doctor’s advise, guitarist Oz Fox recently missed the band’s Latin American tour. Howie Simon (Jeff Scott Soto, Graham Bonnet), who had previously stood in for Fox on a number of tours, temporarily replaced the 64-year-old artist, who had brain surgery in May 2024.
