Metallica revisit thrash classic “Battery” in new Sphere residency live video
Author Benedetta Baldin - 3.11.2026
Metallica have shared a new live video for “Battery”, continuing their series of official performance clips from the band’s Life Burns Faster residency at Sphere in Las Vegas. The latest release puts one of the group’s best-known thrash metal songs in the spotlight against the backdrop of the venue’s immersive concert production.
The song originally opened Metallica’s 1986 album “Master of Puppets”. Four decades later, it also served as the opening number of the band’s first Sphere concert on October 1, 2026.
A thrash classic returns to the spotlight
The opening night performance marked the first time since 2014 that Metallica had begun a concert with “Battery”. The October 1 set also featured “Creeping Death”, “Sad But True”, “The Call of Ktulu” and “Master of Puppets”, alongside selections from later albums.
The new “Battery” video follows other professionally filmed clips released during the residency. Previous uploads have included performances of “Lux Æterna”, “Welcome Home (Sanitarium)” and “Leper Messiah”, offering a closer look at the production for fans who have not attended the Las Vegas shows.
Metallica’s Sphere residency continues into 2027
The Life Burns Faster shows use Sphere’s wraparound visual technology as part of a production designed specifically for the venue. The residency also follows Metallica’s No Repeat Weekend approach, with different setlists across paired concerts.
The band’s upcoming Sphere dates begin again on November 5, with further performances scheduled into March 2027. The official venue calendar lists March 13 as the final currently announced residency date.
