The world’s largest floating metal festival, 70 000 Tons of Metal, returned to Miami just over two weeks ago. The annual cruise brought together more than 3,000 metal fans from 81 different countries – setting a new attendance record – for four days of non-stop heavy music aboard a luxury liner. The 2025 edition featured 61 bands performing across multiple stages as the ship made its way to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, creating an experience that words can barely describe.
Before the cruise Chaoszine’s staff visited Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain’s Rock N’ Roll Ribs restaurant and delivered him some gifts from Kai Hahto of Wintersun / Nightwish:
We also sat down with McBrain for a short interview discussing the hard decision of retiring from Iron Maiden‘s drum throne after 42 years and what lies ahead for the metal legend. The video interview you can found here in case you missed it earlier:
After visiting Rock N’ Roll Ribs restaurant, it was time to prepare for the next day’s highlight of the trip – the 70,000 Tons of Metal. Unlike traditional festivals, on the 70 000 Tons of Metal cruise, artists and fans share the same space for all four days, making the cruise itself a unique experience as you never know who you might end up sharing a breakfast table with or who you’ll bump into in the ship’s corridors. Overall, the artists were in good spirits during the cruise, and there was a special sense of community that’s very typical of metal music.
Each band performed twice on the ship, and most of them presented two different setlists. Shows began in the morning and continued until dawn, challenging even the most seasoned metalheads. The pool deck stage offered a unique experience to enjoy metal music in the Caribbean sun – or while relaxing in a hot tub.
