Mercyful Fate is working on a new album

Danish heavy metal legends Mercyful Fate‘s new album has reached the demo stage. The band’s new bassist Becky Baldwin confirmed the news in an interview with The Metal Voice podcast.

According to Baldwin, the instrumental parts are mostly done and now it’s King Diamond’s turn to work on the songs. Before that, however, King Diamond will focus on his solo album, which is due out this year. After the release of the solo album and a European tour, it will be Mercyful Fate’s turn.

Baldwin also says that the band’s new song “The Jackal of Salzburg”, which has already been performed live, will be included on the forthcoming album. He also reveals that King Diamond has done some impressive work on a demo version of the song.

The first singles from the new Mercyful Fate album could be heard as early as the end of this year, but more likely next year. Baldwin declined to reveal any details about the song titles or lyrics, but confirmed that the album already has named tracks, concepts and riffs.

The band, which returned in 2019 after a long hiatus, released its previous studio album “9” in 1999.
