Mental Cruelty will release their new album “Echoes of a Forlorn Land” on 23 October via Century Media Records. The band are today unveiling the video for their new single “Ride Of The Valkyries“, alongside its intro “Dämmerbruch“.
As the closing chapter of the forthcoming album, the two tracks bring the album’s universe to a monumental conclusion. Imposing orchestrations and triumphant melodies clash with Mental Cruelty’s extreme metal power, evoking the mythology of the Valkyries and the journey of fallen warriors to Valhalla.
The scope of the work reaches new heights with the video accompanying the tracks. Produced in collaboration with the renowned production company Grupa13 (Behemoth, Amon Amarth), Mental Cruelty’s most ambitious visual production to date reads more like a Viking short film than a traditional music video.

A comment from singer Lukas Nicolai:
“‘Ride of the Valkyries’ is the grand finale ahead of the release of our new LP ‘Echoes of a Forlorn Land’. It closes the album (alongside the intro ‘Dämmerbruch’) with a heroic atmosphere, grandiose orchestration and rousing melodies to tell the story of the angelic guides of the dead from Norse mythology.
The epic symphonic death metal riffs serve as the perfect soundtrack for the fallen warriors’ journey to Valhalla, as well as for the battlefield below, where the likes of Children of Bodom, Wintersun and Ensiferum clash with one another and with influences such as black metal and deathcore.
We’ve paired all this with the most grandiose, expensive and over-the-top production we’ve ever undertaken, both musically and visually. We’ve collaborated with production company Grupa13 (Behemoth, Amon Amarth) to create our very own blockbuster, complete with a gripping introduction and an epic, thrilling finale. The video is packed with breathtaking footage centred on a historically accurate Norse village and re-enactors who faithfully adhere to the historical period to ensure maximum authenticity. Basically, it’s our very own little Viking film!”
With “Echoes of a Forlorn Land”, Mental Cruelty Open a powerful new chapter, presenting their most ambitious and immersive work to date. Pushing beyond the boundaries of modern deathcore, the German sextet forges a sound in which blackened death metal collides with elements of black, folk and power metal, creating a cinematic and emotionally charged experience that takes the band’s identity further than ever before.
Produced, mixed and mastered by acclaimed producer Jens Bogren (Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, Kreator, Amon Amarth, Opeth), “Echoes of a Forlorn Land” captures the band at the height of their creative evolution. Building on the success of “Zwielicht”, the band continues to establish itself as one of the most avant-garde and uncompromising forces in modern extreme metal.
