German deathcore act Mental Cruelty have dropped a new single titled “Helheim”, featuring guest vocals from Signs of the Swarm frontman David Simonich. The song arrives alongside a cinematic new music video directed by Rob Reva.
“Helheim” continues Mental Cruelty’s evolution from slamming deathcore toward a more melodic, blackened metal direction. After using their last full-length Zwielicht as a transitional record, the band now leans even further into atmospheric sounds while still keeping their trademark brutality. The track even incorporates the Scandinavian talharpa, an ancient bowed instrument that the band members had to learn specifically for these sessions.
The release also coincides with the start of a joint North American tour, where Mental Cruelty serves as direct support for Signs of the Swarm, alongside ten56., Carcosa, and Face Yourself.
