Thrash metal icons Megadeth are presently on a farewell tour, so it looks like Dave Mustaine and company may be able to tick something off their bucket list, as per theprp. At least one WWE star is hoping the band will take her to the ring after their self-titled final album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in February. A self-described metalhead, Stephanie Vaquer, the current Women’s World Champion, will defend her title at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, Nevada, this month. She recently told Metal Hammer that Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Drowning Pool, and Motörhead were the bands that introduced her to metal.
Vaquer describes the “power, intensity, and motivation” of metal, incorporating aspects of her love for the music into her personality.
That’s what I love most about it, besides the clothing and overall style. I really connect with the metal aesthetic; l’ve always identified with it and felt like I belong in that world. It feels like a part of who I am.
She responded as follows when asked if she would like to be played to the ring by a metal band someday.
It would be a dream to have Motörhead accompany me, even though I know it’s impossible [Motörhead vocalist/bassist Ian “Lemmy” Kilmisterdied in 2015, with guitarist Phil Campbell passing away this year] and they already did it with Triple H. It would also be a dream to come out to Megadeth’s ‘Head Crusher‘.
Vaquer lists Megadeth‘s platinum-certified “Rust In Peace,” the band’s fourth studio album from 1990, as her favorite album of all time, saying, “it brings back so many memories and every song on it is great,” despite the fact that that “Endgame” cut is a relatively contemporary offering from the legendary band’s history. In any case, that would be pretty epic!
