Megadeth release their final studio album – you can now hear their rendition of “Ride the Lightning”

Author Benedetta Baldin - 23.1.2026

Megadeth‘s last studio album has finally been released after months of anticipation, as per theprp. A special rendition of Metallica‘s “Ride The Lightning,” which Megadeth founder Dave Mustaine contributed to creating prior to his expulsion from Metallica in 1983, concludes that self-titled event. Mustaine has already talked extensively about performing that song, characterizing it as a means of “paying his respects” to his former comrades, drummer Lars Ulrich and vocalist James Hetfield of Metallica.

This allusion to his history has also been described by Mustaine as his means of “closing the circle,” as he gets ready to part ways with Megadeth after a three to five-year farewell tour. As of right now, it seems like Mustaine, Hetfield, and Ulrich are still at odds after their relationship was once again strained due to a royalty disagreement over Metallica‘s “No Life ‘Til Leather” demo. Mustaine is still optimistic about making amends once more.
