Matt Keil, who played bass and provided backing vocals for the Canadian melodic hardcore band Comeback Kid from 2008 to 2014, has died following a 19-month struggle with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). The band shared the news on July 14th, remembering him as a close friend, a talented musician, and a great presence on tour.

Keil was diagnosed with ALS in May 2024 and experienced a rapid decline that required full-time care. His wife Maddie left her job to support him through his illness, and a fundraising campaign was launched to help the family cover the growing medical and living expenses. Supporters raised over $70,000 to assist with everything from equipment to in-home care.

Keil is survived by his wife Maddie and their two daughters, Ellie and Zoey. During his years in Comeback Kid, he toured globally and contributed to the band’s momentum during a time of major growth. The band expressed their love and condolences to his family and promised to honor his memory for years to come.
