C.F. Martin & Co. debuted the OM Mikael Åkerfeldt, a limited-edition acoustic made in collaboration with the frontman of Opeth, at this weekend’s Guitar Summit in Mannheim, Germany. As reported by blabbermouth.net, just 74 guitars will be produced globally in remembrance of the Swedish musician’s birth year of 1974. The OM Mikael Åkerfeldt combines daring new elements with Martin’s legendary workmanship. A striking three-piece back made of Guatemalan rosewood and an East Indian rosewood wedge, accentuated by European flamed maple binding, is paired with a torrefied spruce top. Martin has unveiled the Low Profile Velocity neck, which is perfect for players accustomed to the comfort and speed of an electric guitar and was created for our SC models, for the first time in a conventional body. Black Liquidmetal bridge pins for additional sustain and clarity, and an ebony fingerboard with black mother-of-pearl Roman numerals are personal embellishments. Inside, the Modern Deluxe Series’s Golden Era scalloped X-bracing and VTS-treated spruce provide dynamic response and vintage warmth. A personalized Harptone case and a laser-etched stainless steel label are included with every guitar.

Is this the best guitar I’ve ever played? Including the ones in your museum? I believe so. It just sings — the resonance, the clarity, the low end. Everything about it feels magnificent.
