Another appeal has been made to cancel Marilyn Manson‘s upcoming fall UK tour. A local council in the Bournemouth, UK area recently opposed the controversial shock rocker’s request to have his scheduled performance at the Windsor Hall/Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, UK, on October 31st cancelled. British Member of Parliament Siân Berry has now also called for the cancellation of Manson‘s previously indicated UK tour’s October 29th opening date at the Brighton Centre in Brighton, UK. Berry said this in a letter to the local council, according to The Argus.
Many survivors in Brighton and Hove, and organisations supporting them, will have very serious concerns about this booking and its impact on other people visiting the city centre, local residents and the wider community. Freedom of expression is an important principle that should be defended, including in relation to artists, but there is an obvious risk to community cohesion and the council has separate equalities obligations to foster good relations between people who share protected characteristics and people who do not share them. The council has a responsibility to take action where there are risks of discrimination, harassment and victimisation. The level and nature of the accusations against Warner are concerning enough alone, but so too is the message sent out by providing a platform for this individual, at our city’s biggest publicly owned venue, and what this will mean to survivors.
Berry co-signed the letter with the University of Sussex Students’ Union, Reclaim The Night Brighton & Hove, The Queery Co-Op, and the Survivors’ Network. Due to the accusations made against him in 2021, Manson‘s career came to a complete end, and he was dropped by his management, talent agent, and label. After signing with Nuclear Blast, Manson released his 2024 comeback album, “One Assassination Under God – Chapter 1.” Last year, he made his first road appearances since 2019.
