Chilean progressive death-doom band Mar de Grises have rejoined with Season of Mist, ending more than a decade of silence. The label will release the band’s long-awaited fourth album next year.
Mar de Grises formed in 2000 and became the first South American band to join Season of Mist. Before that, they released music through Finland’s Firebox Records. Their third album, “Streams Inwards,” dropped in 2010 through Season of Mist and brought the band international recognition. It also led to tours with Sólstafir, Swallow the Sun, and Saturnus, plus festival appearances alongside Opeth, Enslaved, and Katatonia.
The band signaled their return earlier this year with the single “Surrender to the Fall”, released in May. Now, a new teaser from the upcoming fourth album has also dropped on YouTube.
“After more than a decade of absence, we are thrilled to announce that Mar de Grises have re-signed with the legendary record label Season of Mist,” the band says. “Once again, with our new album, we are pushing the boundaries of genre. These new songs are dark and cinematic, born from the contrasts of Chile’s landscape, which stretches from the Andes to the Pacific, from the Atacama Desert to Tierra del Fuego. The wait is over. Mar de Grises are back!”
More details about the fourth album will follow soon. Next week, Mar de Grises headline Cryptic Celebration VII in Santiago before opening for Opeth.
