Måneskin bag one award at MTV Video Music Awards 2022, part of their live performance apparently censored

We recently reported that Måneskin cancelled their performances at the festivals Reading and Leeds in the UK, due to “unforeseen scheduling conflicts”. This news were met with disappointment by fans who had bought tickets to the festivals to see Måneskin in particular. It did not take long before the rather joyful reason for the “unforeseen scheduling conflicts” became known: The winners of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 were nominated in two categories for the MTV Video Music Awards 2022 (“Best New Artist” and “Best Alternative”) and, in addition, scheduled to perform their single “Supermodel” live at the award show which took place last night in New Jersey. In the end, the Italians not only bagged the award for “Best Alternative” with their song “I Wanna Be Your Slave“, but they also dominate the headlines today, as their performance for “Supermodel” was apparently censored.

At the beginning of the performance, singer Damiano David can be seen in chaps, exposing his bare bottom as he turns around. It seems that bassist Victoria De Angelis took off her top a little later, exposing her breasts. This part was not visible for people who followed the award show on screen. You can check out said performance below:

While fans debate the alleged censorship, the band itself has so far only commented on winning their award:

“I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE is now Best Alternative Video!!!!! Thanks to MTV and the Video Music Awards + everyone who supported us for this adrenaline rush, we love you” – Måneskin
