Toronto post-metal outfit Lowheaven have unveiled a powerful new single and video titled “Amherst,” giving fans another glimpse into their upcoming debut album “Ritual Decay,” which drops August 29th via MNRK Heavy. The track leans into cleaner guitar tones and atmospheric layering, gradually building to a cathartic climax that sets it apart from the album’s heavier moments.
“Ritual Decay” was produced by Brett Romnes and mastered by Magnus Lindberg, and features ten tracks shaped by themes of social isolation, emotional collapse, and the struggle to find meaning. Drawing inspiration from ‘90s heavyweights like Cave In and Deftones, the album mixes distortion and dynamic shifts with intricate sonic textures.
Formed in 2020 during the early stages of the pandemic, Lowheaven—made up of Dan Thomson (vocals/guitar), Mikey Buchta (vocals/bass), Alex Pley (guitar/keys), and Pat Pajak (guitar)—pulls from a range of genres including post-hardcore, screamo, and blackened noise. Their writing process for “Ritual Decay” took place in an old church, with minimal sleep and a heavy dose of horror films helping fuel the emotional weight behind the music.
The band is currently wrapping up a short U.S. tour with Tan And Handsome, bringing their emotionally intense sound to a handful of intimate venues. Remaining dates are as follows:
July 22, 2025: Ottobar, Baltimore, MD
July 23, 2025: Sellersville Theatre, Sellersville, PA
July 24, 2025: The Woodshop, Brooklyn, NY
