One of the legends of guitar, Jeff Beck, has died at the age of 78. The Guardian reports that it has received confirmation of Beck’s death from the guitarist’s representative. Beck died on Tuesday after suddenly falling ill with bacterial meningitis.

In the 1960s, Beck came to prominence as the guitarist for the rock band The Yardbirds, replacing Eric Clapton, who had previously played with the band. However, Beck soon released his first solo album “Truth”, and continued to record his own albums until the end of the 2010s.

An update has been posted on Beck’s official Instagram account, linked below.

“On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing. After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.”
