British punk legends Leatherface have unveiled “The Peel Sessions”, a collection of three separate sessions recorded in the 1990’s for John Peel’s iconic BBC Radio 1 show. The release offers a raw, unfiltered portrait of the band’s early sound, captured within the renowned Maida Vale studios—an environment that only a select few were ever invited to enter, all at the personal request of Peel himself.
These sessions represent a significant chapter in the band’s story, preserving the gritty energy of their formative years. Known for its distinct acoustics, Maida Vale helped shape the unique sonic identity of these recordings. The vinyl version adjusts the running order slightly to maintain optimal audio quality, while the CD follows the original sequence as it was recorded.
Formed in Sunderland, England in 1988, Leatherface became one of the UK’s most influential underground punk bands, blending gritty hardcore with melodic sensibilities. Led by the distinct gravelly vocals of frontman Frankie Stubbs, the band earned a cult following with albums like “Mush” and “Minx”, leaving a lasting mark on punk and post-hardcore scenes worldwide.
Available now on vinyl, CD, and digital formats, “The Peel Sessions” delivers a timeless snapshot of Leatherface in their prime, marked by the raw emotion and rough-edged precision that made their Peel recordings something truly special.
