Lamentari unveil “Oculi Lapidis” music video ahead of “Ante Auroram” album

Danish symphonic extreme metal outfit Lamentari have released a new music video for “Oculi Lapidis”, the final single from their forthcoming album “Ante Auroram”, due November 13, 2026. The video was created by vocalist Daniel Lønberg, who also oversees the band’s visual direction.

Lønberg says the song began with an unsettling idea: hatred continuing beyond death. Its story follows a man buried with stones over his eyes, intended to grant him sight in the afterlife. Someone who despised him steals the stones from the grave, leaving him condemned to wander blindly after death.

“There was something deeply cruel about the idea that even dying wouldn’t be enough to escape another person’s hatred,” Lønberg explains in the band’s announcement.

For the video, the band imagined an endless space between the worlds of the living and the dead, filled with flowing veils and cold, ethereal light. It is a realm that departed souls must cross as the boundaries of existence dissolve.

The album title “Ante Auroram” means “before dawn”. According to Lønberg, the record explores what a soul carries from one life into the next. The release is described as the band’s second album and the fourth instalment in its broader symphonic catalogue, continuing their combination of extreme metal and classical music.

“Ante Auroram” was mixed and mastered by Stefano Morabito, whose credits include Fleshgod Apocalypse and previous Lamentari releases. Its choral sections were recorded with a live choir in London under Aaron King’s direction.

The band will mark the album’s release with a special performance at Copenhagen’s Pumpehuset on November 12th, featuring cellist Raphael Weinroth-Browne, known for his work with Leprous. You can get tickets for this show by clicking here.
